Yesterday Carson met with his new Speech Therapist at Shriners. He wasn't very excited about it until she turned on "The Wheels on the Bus" music. He went nuts with happiness and hand motions ofcourse. Then something amazing happened by the end of the hour.
She tested Carson and he was able to pick the "Radio" picture up and throw it on the table to let her know he wanted to listen to more music. She would turn it off and ask him what he wanted to do next....then he would grab the picture and throw it on the table. When she turned the music back on he was thrilled! She then added a picture of a ball and etc--reversed orders and etc to find out that Carson was picking up the radio picture on purpose!!! Eventually music got old and he picked up the picture of the ball and they threw that back and forth for a bit.
It was GREAT!!! Carson has never been ready for the Picture System yet (PECS)...but it looks like times are changing. SO I have taken tons of pictures around the house of things we do in our daily routines!! We will show him the picture & the "sign" before we do it. You could see the happiness in Carsons face when he felt like he had truly communicated what he wanted, and that we understood entirely! It was a breakthrough!
